One-pot rice tips to elevate your cooking

Cook, these are your essential tips for how to cook up a glorious rice dish. One-pot rice brings limitless possibilities to play around with flavours and ingredients. Nail the foundations, your journey starts here.

Which rice to use for one-pot rice dishes?

Basmati or other long-grain rice is your best bet to prevent a mushy texture and give you an outstanding one-pot rice dish. Rinse the rice and let it soak in cold water for up to 30 minutes. This helps the rice to soak up flavours you will be adding to the dish later.

By letting the rice soak, you make for faster cooking, create an enjoyable texture, and keep the rice’s natural aroma. You only need to just cover the rice in water to soak it.

Drain off the soaking water and add fresh water when it is time to boil the rice.

Knowing the water-to-rice ratio and cooking time is the key to gloriously cooked rice – and to avoiding watery, hard, chewy, mushy, or burnt rice. Stick with a ratio of 2:1 and let it simmer for 10 minutes on low heat. Then just pull the pot away from the heat and let it rest for 5-10 minutes.

Fry up and toss a good measure of Lurpak® into the mix

Discover how a little Lurpak® can elevate your one-pot cooking and bring out all the flavours of your accompanying ingredients.

If your one-pot dish will be getting a flavour boost from meats like beef, lamb, or bone-in chicken, the trick to elevating the taste is as simple as a good measure of Lurpak®. Melt the butter and brown the meat before you toss it together with the rice for a gloriously rich flavour.

Butter is also key for your aromatics. Chop, sauté, and fry onions, garlic, herbs, spices, or tomato paste in butter to release all their wonderful flavours.

If fish, chicken breast, or vegetables are your chosen ones for the dish, then skip the frying and let them cook with the rice right from the start.
